Product information
The EUROstor ES-8700 Metro Cluster over Ethernet with Open-E JovianDSS consists of two nodes. Each node is equipped with its own hard disks, which are directly connected to it.
The hard disks of each node are shared between the nodes and forwarded to the other node via Ethernet. This indirect connection enables each node to access all hard disks in the cluster. The hard disks of the other node are referred to as remote disks. The ZFS file system ensures a high level of data security by checksumming all data and directly addressing the hard disks. Virtually any number of snapshots can be created without affecting performance.
Thanks to the Ethernet connection, the nodes can be located locally or far apart, which enables highly available solutions across fire protection zones or even across two data centers. Cluster communication and data mirroring is done via Ethernet, enabling a point-to-point fiber optic connection of up to 80 km, provided the network latency does not exceed 5 ms.
The EUROstor ES-8700 Metro Cluster over Ethernet provides load balancing for SMB, NFS, FC and iSCSI protocols through active pools on both nodes. In the event of a node failure, the other node takes over its services and the pools of the first node are immediately activated on the other. Load balancing on both nodes allows the full potential of the cluster to be exploited.
In addition, data can be replicated asynchronously to a third location using the On- and Off-site Data Protection (ODP) feature.
For particularly high performance in SSD-based clusters, the SSDs of the nodes can be connected to each other via 100 Gbit Ethernet. The support of RDMA increases the data throughput via the Ethernet connection and thus further improves the performance of the NVMe SSDs.
