Product information
Storage cluster with ZFS file system offer extremely high data availability. The file system contains check sums of all data and addresses each disk directly, without RAID controller, thus being able to recognize and correct even single defects of any disk immediately. Furthermore practically infinite numbers of snapshots can be generated without performance loss.
With the newest version of the Open-E JovianDSS software also active/active clusters can be configured, speeding up performance by sharing the load on the cluster nodes.
The Cluster supports iSCSI, Fibre Channel as well as NFS and CIFS access.
For maximum redundancy the disks of two JBODs can be mirrored in pairs, so that, if a JBOD should fail, all volumes would still be available. This can also be configured as Metro-Cluster over two sites.
Additionally the data can be asynchronously replicated to a second site, over the network. On the other side only a single ES-8700 Open-E Jovian DSS system is needed. But of course this could also be a second cluster.
Some models have been certified as a complete system by Open-E. The other models of the series only differ in the configuration.
These clusters can also be installed as hyper-converged solution or together with virtualization clusters.
Alternatively, it is also possible to connect two Open-E JovianDSS systems as a metro cluster via Ethernet. The disks of the other side are then visible to the other side via iSCSI like local disks and can be mirrored in pairs. Further information in the chapter ES-8700JCL ZFS Metro Cluster over Ethernet based on Open-E JovianDSS.
These systems can also be delivered with NVMe (U.2) to the disks.
ZFS storage clusters with the Open-E JovianDSS software can be additionally secured by asynchronously backing up the data to another system at any remote location ("OODP", On- & Off-Site Data Protection).
In an emergency, this system can then be activated and the individual volumes are immediately accessible again via the network.
All that is needed is another Open-E JovianDSS system Since this system only receives snapshots from the source, but is not accessible from the outside except in an emergency, it also protects against ransomware attacks. In the event of an emergency, a snapshot is then activated in time before the attack, the original source system can be completely deleted and the data restored. Even during this time, the data from the OODP server is available.
