ES-2000 Windows S2D Cluster

Windows S2D - Overview

  • hyperconverged cluster with Storage Spaces Direct S2D
  • dual node mirror or multinode scale-out cluster
  • NAS Storage Cluster with Hyper-V
  • also usable as Metro Cluster
  • Server with up to 36 3.5" or up to 72 2.5" hard disk slots, opt. expandable via 12 Gbit SAS ports
  • Nearline SAS disks up to 18 TB, SAS/SATA SSDs and/or PCIe SSDs
  • rolling Windows updates without downtime
  • scalable by adding more nodes or by adding JBODs to existing nodes
  • Mirroring of data disks across nodes
  • Distributed file system across all nodes, with shared access
  • PCIe NVMe SSDs as read/write cache for particularly high data throughput and IOPS (mirrored to a second node at a time)
  • one Windows Server Datacenter license required per node
  • redundant hot-swap power supplies and fans
  • dedicated IPMI 2.0 port for server remote management and remote console
  • 3 years warranty, optional up to 5 years express exchange or on-site service
  • optional on-site installation or configuration via remote access

Product information

With the Storage Spaces Direct technology (in short: S2D), which is included in the Datacenter version of Windows a cluster can be configured as a CIFS/SMB file server. A common file system is created across all nodes, in which the hard disks are mirrored in groups of two or three.
On the one hand, this achieves very high availability, on the other hand, performance increases with each node. In addition, the clients can access the shares equally through all nodes and thus use the full network bandwidth. Another advantage: Since the licenses are are not calculated according to capacity, the cluster can be expanded into the petabyte range as required without incurring further capacity licensing costs. Thanks to NVMe cache SSDs, even high-capacity nearline SAS disks with high capacity are sufficient.
