Product information
The ES-8700JCL Metro Cluster over Ethernet can be either a local or a stretched cluster over two sites. This allows a HA solution across fire zones or even across two data centers. Each other's disks are then visible to the other side via iSCSI like local disks and can be mirrored in pairs. For more data security, we recommend a 4-way mirror.
Storage clusters with ZFS file system offer particularly high data availability. The file system contains checksums of all data and addresses the individual disks directly, without a RAID controller, so that even individual defects of a disk can be detected and corrected immediately. In addition, practically any number of snapshots can be created, and this without any loss of performance.
The Cluster supports iSCSI, Fibre Channel as well as NFS and CIFS access. In addition, data can also be replicated asynchronously to a third site via a network connection using the On- and Off-site Data Protection feature (ODP). On the other hand, only a single ES-8700DSS Open-E JovianDSS system is then required.
For particularly high performance in SSD-based clusters, the SSDs of the two nodes can be made visible to the other side via 100 Gbit Ethernet. In this way they can be combined into mirrors under the ZFS file system. Due to the newly added RDMA support, the data throughput over the Ethernet connection could be significantly increased by reduced latency, so that the performance of the NVMe SSDs can be used even better.
This is not the only new feature: For example, when using cluster nodes with spinning disks, it is now possible to mirror the write-log SSDs between the nodes, which increases performance after a failover.
