Shared storage ZFS clusters at the CeBIT fair 2016

EUROstor presents new active/active storage clusters with Open-E JovianDSS at the CeBIT fair

Filderstadt, 23 Feb. 2016

ZFS-based storage systems offer particularly high data protection by means of a file system which, via checksums and disk scrubbing, manages to protect the data on every single hard disk against modification by so-called “stealth errors“, thus contributing to avoid corrupted file systems.

With the new version of the ES-8700 JDSS systems these may also be operated as Active/Active Clusters; this results in very high availability on the one hand and allows for an optimum use of resources on the other, by distributing the load on both nodes – up to a duplication of performance.

ES-8700 JDSS clusters use the Open-E Jovian DSS software on servers which were especially configured and optimized for this purpose, offering access via NFS and iSCSI. Two standard 10 Gbit Ethernet ports, the number of which may be optionally increased, allow for an excellent data throughput. The data will be stored on JBODs via 12 Gbit SAS ports connected to both cluster nodes, with the possibility to mirror disks from two or more JBODs against each other in order to be protected against failures of an entire JBODs. Additionally, the data may be saved in an asynchronous manner on a system (or a cluster) in a different fire protection area.

Nearline and highly revolving SAS hard disks will be used or SSDs for a full-flash solution. The ZFS file system allows for a virtually unlimited number of snapshots and volume clones without loss of performance. Thin and over-provisioning, deduplication and compression will ensure an optimum use of storage capacity; cache SSDs will accelerate writing and reading performance.

“With the new active/active version of the ES-8700 JDSS clusters we are able to comply with the very high performance requirements of our customers“, says Franz Bochtler, President of EUROstor, “even at a very attractive price without cutting back on the availability of the system.“

Among numerous other storage solutions EUROstor will present an ES-8700 JDSS cluster at this year’s CeBIT in exhibition hall 12, booth A68-5. Thus, potential customers will have a chance to see a live demonstration of such a solution.

The price for a ES-8700 cluster e.g. equipped with 12 x 600 GB SAS 10K hard disks, 100 GB write cache SSD and 400 GB reading cache SSD, 2 x 10 Gbit Ethernet, amounts to € 13,990.00 without VAT (€ 16,648.10 including VAT).
