ZFS Metro Cluster live at the CeBIT fair

EUROstor presents the new ES-8700CLF Cluster with JovianDSS at the CeBIT fair in Hannover

Filderstadt, 27 February 2017

Storage systems with the ZFS file system provide particularly high data security by file system checksums and periodical disk scrubbing. In order to allow for that ZFS has its own RAID function and dispenses with a hardware RAID controller.

Configurated as a cluster, ZFS servers access a shared storage pool. In order to provide protection even in case of failure of a complete JBODs, the disks of two JBODs are mirrored against each other. Thus, the data can be made available for the clients via iSCSI, NFS and CIFS. At this year’s CeBIT, EUROstor, Platinum Partner of Open-E, will present for the first time such a solution as a Metro Cluster, using the Open-E JovianDSS software. In this case, the  JBODs are not accessed by the cluster nodes via SAS as usual, but instead via Fibre Channel. Thus, the two cluster nodes and one half each of the storage pool may be placed in two different fire protection areas. In case FC switches are used, long-range distances are possible as well.

At this year’s CeBIT (exhibition hall 2, stand A47), which will take place in Hannover from March 20-24, EUROstor will present this Metro Cluster solution, among other products.

Moreover, EUROstor will also present the other extreme of a ZFS cluster: as a Cluster-in-a-Box. In this case, both cluster nodes are compacted within a chassis of 2 or 4 U and access a common backplane. Here, too, both nodes may be rebooted separately without interrupting the data availability.

„With these two new ZFS products we are able to considerably expand the fields of application for clusters with Open-E JovianDSS“, say Franz Bochtler, general manager of EUROstor. „With the ES-8700CLF Metro Cluster we are able to present to our customers a very reliable and, nevertheless, affordable high availability solution.“
