Scale-out cluster for the private cloud at the Cloud Expo Europe 2016

Together with its software partner Compuverde EUROstor presents, among others, its ES-7000vNAS cluster in Frankfurt.

Increasingly, object storage becomes more important for the “private cloud” as well: data are stored in highly scalable storage systems which are accessed via OpenStack or via the S3 protocol.

EUROstor’s ES-7000vNAS systems are server-based storage systems with vNAS software of Swedish partner Compuverde AB. In these systems the data are distributed to a virtually unlimited number of nodes and can be accessed by each of them.

A distributed self-healing file system across all nodes allows access via NAS, iSCSI, OpenStack and S3. Via Erasure Coding the data is distributed to the nodes in a redundant manner in order to keep it accessible even in case of failure of one or several nodes. The degree of redundancy can be defined at the directory or file level. In case one node is not available, its IP address will be adopted by another node as a virtual IP. Thus, even a rolling upgrade of all nodes without interruption is possible. Even expansions may be carried out at any time without slumps in performance, while performance and bandwidth will increase with every additional node.

Last but not least, the new Metro Cluster functionality from Compuverde allows for a synchronized, active-active setup that replicates the data between two physical locations for complete protection in case of disaster, with no downtime. The Metro feature is unusually simple to set up, as it only requires a low-latency connection (under 5 ms) between the two locations; in other words, no Fiber Channel, management connectivity or extra storage controllers are required.

EUROstor will present this solution at the Cloud Expo, at the Frankfurt Fair premises, on November 23 and 24, stand 725, together with an Infortrend EonStor GS system, which, as a storage appliance for NAS, iSCSI, FC and SAS, will save its data into the (public or private) cloud or, otherwise, will operate as cache or Tier0 in front of the cloud, thus providing cloud data via common interfaces.

“The use of object storage, which allows a flexible expansion on-the-fly, is increasingly important for our customers. In these cases the use of private cloud solutions appears to be appropriate, whereby the customer retains full control of his data while being able to benefit from all advantages of the cloud“, says Franz Bochtler, president of EUROstor. “Therefore we are glad to be able to present to our customers at this year’s Cloud Expo high-quality and nevertheless affordable solutions.”

The price for a ES-7000 node with 12 Nearline SAS hard disks of 2 TB each, Intel DC P3700 400GB PCIe SSD, 2x 10Gbit Ethernet, etc. amounts to € 6,290.00 without VAT (€ 7,485.10 including VAT). Three of these nodes will be sufficient for setting up a cluster, at least four nodes are recommended for maximum redundancy.
