Scale-Out Storage for redundant storage of virtual machines and their data: this can be easily achieved with VMware vSphere. Thanks to the vSAN extension, memory management in the hypervisor itself can be executed, so that everything is organized via one single GUI.
At least three nodes are required to build a vSAN cluster. Each one must contain a cache SSD and disk memory. Additional nodes can also be configured without disks, as pure I/O nodes to increase performance. The cluster can be easily extended on-the-fly, both by adding individual hard disks into free slots of existing nodes and by adding further nodes.
