ES-6600 Tiered Storage RAID
SAS disks are fast, but also more expensive than SATA disks. When it comes to huge amount of data it is advisable to use both types of disk and to keep only the most important and frequently used data on high performing SAS storage.
On the other hand it is not easy to manually sort data and let the application software know where to find each file.
Tiered Storage automatically migrates data to inexpensive media following predefined rules (policies). All date remain visible in the same file system, but all migrated date are being replaced in the main file system (tier 1) by links to the second less expensive storage (tier 2). For the user and his application this means: all data is visible at any time – the software manages access to the real media used for each file.
EUROstor offers her ES-6600 RAID systems bundled with the tiered storage software from PoINT Software & Systems. As in the RAID systems SAS and SATA drives can be mixed, they are the ideal hardware to combine tier 1 and 2 storage in the same enclosure. So the customer receives a very performing RAID solution for much less money than a pure SAS RAID would cost.
